Tsvetnye Metally
The major portion of articles published in the September issue of Tsvetnye Metally covers the developments achieved by D.Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, as well as analytical studies conducted with the help of the unique research equipment owned by Mendeleev Shared Knowledge Centre.
The papers authored by researchers from the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia cover such topics as nanostructured ceramic materials with high thermal resistance, black protective and decorative molybdate coatings obtained on galvanized steel, use of complex titanium containing coagulants to remove copper compounds as part of wastewater treatment, production of high-purity zinc oxides for photonic applications, and others.
This issue also features articles authored by Kola MMC’s staff. These papers examine the problem of raising the selectivity of platinum group metals concentrates at Kola MMC’s Chemical and Metallurgical Shop, as well as the importance of effective project management for a company’s progress in science and technology.
Of particular interest is the article published in the Composites and Multipurpose Coatings section, which looks at directed ultrasonic cleaning of poorly accessible internal surfaces of additive manufactured heat exchangers. It is shown that ultrasound helps intensify the pickling process when cleaning the internal surfaces in a heat exchanger, without causing erosion or affecting the surface roughness.
The Automation section describes an optical system designed to monitor metallurgical briquettes, which offers considerable advantages compared with the current practice of spot testing. The system will enable automatic monitoring of incoming briquettes while cutting the related cost. It will also help reduce the number of briquettes to be destroyed for visual inspection before the system has been fully commissioned.
