New order for SMS Meer

Tongling Nonferrous orders two continuous copper casters.

The Chinese Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group from Tongling, Anhui Province, has placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of two horizontal continuous casting plants, make Technica. The casters produce high-quality cold-rollable copper alloy strips that are subsequently employed for applications in the electrical industry, for example in printed circuit boards.

“Tongling Nonferrous has put their faith in our vast experience. SMS Meer has already designed and built more than 100 of these plants,” says Uwe Repschläger, Vice President – Copper Plants at SMS Meer.

The continuous casters for copper strip from SMS Meer are characterized by high flexibility and are ideally suited - for meeting small to medium production capacities. Tongling Nonferrous plans to produce various special copper alloys with the new casters.

Each plant consists of an induction-heated holding furnace with modern, energy-efficient IGBT controller. This is followed by the primary and secondary cooling lines and the drawing facilities with electronically controlled servo drive. And finally there are shears, coilers and transport facilities.

The casting speed of the new plants can be up to 190 mm per minute, the casting rate up to 1,000 kg per hour. Strips are produced with dimensions up to max. 650 x 18 mm.

Commissioning of the two continuous casters is scheduled for summer 2013.
