Modernisation at Port Talbot: Plant constructor Oschatz also provides super-heater and quencher
21.10.2011, 16:52
Another success for plant constructor Oschatz in line with the modernisation process at Port Talbot steelworks: After the order for the design, manufacture, delivery and assembly of two new converter cooling stacks with evaporation cooling was already placed with Oschatz this summer, the Germany-based plant constructor was now awarded the contracts for super-heater and quencher as well. Thereby Oschatz again demonstrates the company’s extensive knowledge on the field of efficient waste heat cooling systems in the iron and steel metallurgy.
Tata Steel Europe gladly relies on proven Oschatz know-how. “We were pleased to place further components for the modernisation process with Oschatz,“ said Ian Park, project manager at Tata Steel. “With Oschatz we can count on an experienced specialist who supports us on the whole way from waste gas cooling to flue gas cleaning and steam production, supplying all components as a one-stop source. This way it is possible to resort on pooled experience and use uncomplicated communication channels. The challenge now is for Oschatz to ensure that the installation can meet up to our expectations and aligns with other improvements being carried out at Port Talbot Works.”
The production of the new cooling components for Port Talbot has already started. Place of production is the new, ultra-modern manufacturing facility in Turkey. “Everything goes according to plan,” said Oschatz project manager Peter Krawczyk. “The material has been delivered to Turkey just as scheduled; now we are working full speed on the fabrication of the boiler parts.”
