10 ¾" PQF® tube mill for USA. SMS Meer receives fifth order for PQF® seamless tube mill from TPCO

TPCO America Corporation from Corpus Christi, Texas, USA, has placed an order with SMS Meer, Germany, for the supply of a new 10 ¾” tube mill with PQF^® rolling technology. The plant will produce oil country tubular goods (OCTG) for the crude oil and natural gas industry in the region. The customer decided in favor of the SMS Meer plant due to the high quality of the tubes and energy savings during production.

It is already the fifth PQF® plant that SMS Meer has supplied to TPCO.

“In the meantime we have vast experience with the PQF® technology from SMS Meer and are very satisfied with the quality of the tubes, the productivity and the energy efficiency of the machines,” emphasized Mr. Zhang Chun Feng, Vice General Manager of the TPCO international purchasing company.

The highlight of this plant is the latest PQF^®-solution, the so called PQF®-BCO (Bilateral Change Over) and this worldwide first solution ensures beside short changing times due to the patented design a further significant improvement of the wall thickness tolerance.

The PQF® mill is designed for a maximum capacity of 534,000 t per year, with a maximum tube diameter of 273.1 mm. Core components of the plant supplied by SMS Meer are the cone-type piercer, the PQF® mill, the extracting mill and the sizing mill. Apart from the mechanical equipment, the SMS Meer scope of supply also includes the technology and automation system, the project management with supervision of erection and commissioning.

The first tube is scheduled to be rolled at TPCO America on October 1, 2014.
