Abstract | The resumption of copper smelting production on “Karabashmed” JSC was possible only on the assumption of launching the plant of sulfur dioxide disposal and purification of waste gases from all contaminants. The existing manufacturing equipment in the form of shaft furnaces did not allow to implement effectively the metallurgical gas processing, according to the existing technologies in nonferrous metallurgy. The question of optimal problem solution of gas utilization was raised before the personnell of the company, according to the upcoming reconstruction of copper smelting production. Analysis of ways of solving such problems in the related industries allowed the technical and engineering employees of the company and its shareholders to choose the completely new innovation technologies in this field. Problem solving process of sulfur utilization was divided into three stages. At the first stage there was planned the construction of the facilities for the existing metallurgical equipment. At the second stage was planned the construction of production for processing the stable and rich gases of recently constructed devices. On the third stage was provided the choice of further development of gas processing facilities taking into account the operation of the previously constructed sulfuric acid productions. Shareholders of the company decided to use the washing department, according to a project of Boliden company and a project of wet catalysis of Haldor Topsoe company. This decision was made for the conditions of the unstable content of sulfur dioxide and its quantity with high dust content of metallurgical gas. These projects and equipment had no analogues of usage in Russia and were both innovative and highly risky. Conclusion of contracts for the supply of equipment and technology with companies Haldor Topsoe A / S and Boliden Contech AB solved the problem of the first stage of the enterprise`s reconstruction and identified the ways of its further development. The applied installation of wet catalysis had no precedents of usage in nonferrous metallurgy. The experience of its exploitation made it possible to construct and use such devices in other enterprises of the branch. |
