Thickeners of different manufacturers were compared when designing the flowsheet for thickening tailings of gravity concentration of the Vasilievsky mine ore. As a result, high-rate Supaflo thickener of 15 m in diameter was installed at the gold recovery plant. The thickener demonstrated reliable continuous operation with the plant capacity of 300 th tpy. The study conducted in 2006 with the current ore demonstrated the possibility of using the same thickener with the plant production increase up to 1 mln tpy in terms of ore but with higher flocculant consumption, with Praestol 2520 being an optimum flocculant and ensuring the necessary underflow density and overflow purity.
