Abstract | Bioindication assessment of environment quality in vicinity of two large industrial hubs on the territory of the Western Yakutia have been performed. Refuse heaps, shores of tailing reservoirs, as well as the territory of Mirnyi and Udachnyi cities were examined. Such parameters as fluctuating asymmetry (FA) level, mitotic activity, and frequency of occurrence of mitotic abnormalities (MA) in Japanese leek seedlings germed in contaminated soils have been considered. About 5,000 plant leaves and 17 soil samples, as well as more than 11,800 anatelophase cells have been analyzed. Statistically significant increase in FA and MA values have been registered on technogenically transformed territories, which indicates disturbances in developmental homeostasis due to the complex influence of negative factors of anthropogenically transformed environment. Assessment of environment quality showed that on the territory of Mirnyi city the contamination spreads from technogenic landscapes into the residential area. On the whole, environment quality deterioration in the zone of influence of mining facilities can be observed on territories exceeding those allotted significantly. |
