Abstract The results of studies of the Khibini Mountains deposits' apatite-nepheline ores thermochemical selection process are presented. An alternative technology, as opposed to the currently applied one, has been proposed, based on joint thermochemical processing of apatite and nepheline concentrates, providing for a high recovery of phosphorus and alkalis into gaseous phase and of aluminium into solution. The advantages of the proposed method are non-waste technology, decrease of reagents costs, possibility of producing high-priced phosphorus-containing products.
