Abstract
Molecular Recognition Technology (MRT) is described together with examples of its application to the commercial separation and recovery of several ions of non-ferrous metals from mixtures with sophisticated contents. Advantages of MRT over traditional separation methods are presented and discussed. MRT is non-ion exchange system that makes use of ligands of pre-determined selectivity that are chemically bonded to solid supports such as silica gel or polymer substrates (SuperLig®). The separations are highly selective, rapid, use minimal floor space, environmentally friendly and do not introduce new contaminants into the process. The examples of MRT using for recovery of metal ions from solutions with different chemical content have been presented. Use of MRT in laboratories for analytical sample pre-treatment is described.
