The author carried out a scientific research connected with the formation of a directional drilling profile design for a development test well in the area of the West Cheleken deposit with a view to assessing the risk of the new wellbore intersection with the earlier drilled wells. Considering the complicated conditions of drilling, the research enabled selecting the most rational drilling trajectory. For the risk assessment of intersection of new and earlier drilled wells, the profile constructed in Close Approach was evaluated positively as it provided the most precise data on drilling conditions. In order to prevent wellbore intersection, it is necessary to evaluate geological risks and take into account measurement errors. Measurement errors concern angles and azimuths, precision of equipment, depth, north pointing, magnetization intensity of pipes and magnetic environment. Furthermore, it is required to take into account errors due to equipment arrangement inside a well. An appropriate well profile should be selected after correction of these errors. The tailor-made profile minimizes the use of a diverter, which ensures required advance of well bottom, suitable set of angles of curvature and free movement of core-drilling fittings in a well. During the research, the data on the trajectories of the earlier drilled wells were obtained and became a framework for the assessment and prediction of efficiency of the wellbore intersection risk prevention. One of the key inferences of the research is not only the criticality of the analysis of the earlier drilled well profiles but also the prediction and planning of directional well drilling at mineral deposits being mined. This approach facilitates optimization of mining flowcharts and sound investment decision-making. |
