Processes of compacting and forming a solid phase combination, when using various
schemes of briquetting and subsequent thermocompression treatment of titanium alloy swarf |
Abstract |
The article discusses the results of a set of studies conducted to determine features and regularities of forming a solid phase combination, when applying various methods of titanium swarf briquetting. The determined methods of cold briquetting ensure a high quality of treating materials, resulting in manufacturing quality products from titanium swarf without its remelting. It has been determined that hydrogen plasticization of titanium swarf contributes to not only more intensive compacting of a porous material of briquettes, but also to forming zones of a solid phase combination, if there are compression stresses and shear strain. The article studies the influence of a preparatory operation of short-term pickling (clearing) of swarf in water solutions of mineral acids on the rate and quality of forming a solid phase combination of fragments of titanium alloy swarf. The studies have determined the effect of applying two- and three-stage compacting of briquettes of swarf of titanium alloys VT5, VT3-1, VT22, using rams with a profiling working surface. It has been determined that using rams with a conical working surface (taper angle is 45o) has a positive influence on the quality of swarf materials treatment and manufactured briquettes. The proposed technology of manufacturing quality products from titanium alloy swarf without its remelting includes the following operations: swarf cleaning, magnetic separation, hydrogen plasticization, two-stage briquetting with a conical and flat ram, degassing of a capsular shell of briquettes, shell encapsulating, thermocompression treatment of briquettes in a capsular shell, extrusion of briquettes with capsules, and mechanical treatment. |
