Abstract

The results of the theoretical and experimental studies confirm the possibility of using physical, physicochemical and electrochemical effects in enrichment schemes of diamond-containing materials to improve the quality of concentrates in dense medium, X-ray luminescent, sticky and foam separation. The effectiveness of nitriding the ferrosilicon surface to a depth of 30-60 nm is determined: it provides a 2.7-times reduction in the corrosion rate of ferrosilicon granules under conditions of contact with mineralized water during dense medium separation. The effectiveness of two-stage magnetic concentration of rough concentrates after dense medium separation of diamond-bearing materials from placer deposits before entering the schemes of finishing operations is confirmed. The concentrate quality is improved owing to sequential removal of up to 95% of highly magnetic and weakly magnetic minerals using magnetic fields of 2000 Oe and 14000 Oe, respectively. The component composition of a luminophore-containing reagent–modifier is experimentally determined. The use of the reagent in preparation of a diamondcontaining material before X-ray luminescent separation ensures modification of the spectral and kinetic characteristics of diamond crystals to the values required by the settings of the existing separators and necessary for the crystal identification as diamonds. This approach allows almost 100% extraction of previously undetectable weakly and anomalously luminescent crystals into concentrate. A high-degree (up to 95%) purification of diamond surface from hydrophilizing formations is found using physicochemical and electrochemical effects on a diamond-containing material of the -6 mm class. The results of bench tests confirm the effectiveness of the developed technology owing to the increased extraction of diamonds into the main concentrates of sticky and foam separation by 14% and 12.7%, respectively.
