This work covers one of the urgent problems in mining and metals, namely, material composition analysis and gold-bearing ore process design. The objective of this research was to conduct laboratory studies in order to develop a processing technology and assess the resulting process recovery of gold and silver for ore samples obtained at the North-Western block of the Kyzylalmasai ore field. The material composition for the ore samples was studied using spectral, chemical, and rational gold and silver assays, optical emission analysis, and other methods and is represented by quartz, pyrite, and chalcopyrite. The chemical assay results for the ore studied have demonstrated the following average grades for the sample: 4.11 g/t of gold and 31.52 g/t of silver. Gravity concentration, flotation, direct and sorption cyanidation were analyzed as potential processing methods. The resulting process, that has been developed and recommended for processing the gold-bearing ore studied, yielded a gravity concentrate containing 66.28 g/t of gold and 468.98 g/t of silver with metal recoveries of 43.22 and 39.88 %, respectively. Flotation of the gravity tailings yielded a flotation concentrate containing 33.36 g/t of gold and 235.22 g/t of silver with a gold recovery of 47.97 % and a silver recovery of 46.92 % of the ore. The total recovery into the combined concentrate was 91.19 % for gold and 86.79 % for silver. The resulting concentrate grades meet the specifications for copper smelter feed.
