Abstract | Compared to conventional total regeneration systems the Star process (Steuler Total Acid Regeneration) combines membrane filtration (microfiltration/nanofiltration) and thermal separation techniques (evaporation, crystallization, pyrohydrolysis) and results in improved nitric acid recovery and optimized energy demand. For further development of the process, Steuler Anlagenbau and VDEh-BFI have jointly examined the performance of membrane filtration technology and crystallization, core pieces of the process. At the end of July 2009 Steuler Anlagenbau was awarded the contract for building a total regeneration plant for stainless steel pickling acid based on the Star process. With two Star plants operating successfully in Asia, this one will be the first in Europe. |
