ArticleName | Forming the future with steel innovations |
Abstract | Innovation solutions based on high-tech steel applications as innovation technical solutions were discussed during the 21th conference “Steel market 2017”. This approach is based on improvement of the existing steel grades and development of new ones, with their adaptation to the requirements of customers. Several examples were presented and analyzed, among them the following two projects. The first is the highefficient power engineering plant in Düsseldorf harbour, providing cutting of carbon dioxide emissions by 3 mln. t in comparison with coal power plants; it was reached owing to use of heat-resistant steels as material for the components which can be operated under high temperatures and high pressure. The second example is use of high-strength structural steels (with tensile strength 1100 MPa) in manufacture of lifting cranes, what allowed to reach the ratio “lifting capacity / self crane mass” as 9.0 instead of 1.5 in 1970. Based on this technical solution, the most powerful lifting crane worldwide has lifting capacity 3,200 tons, what corresponds to flying mass of 8 Airbus A380 planes. |
