Abstract | The integrated metallurgical plant of Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann (HKM) with annual production 5.5 mln. tons of of highquality steel products is located in Duisburg. In order to provide manufacture of products with required properties, the works has two stands for iron desulphurization, three stands for blowing and alloying as well as four vacuum units. Casting operations are conducted at two continuous casting machines (manufacturing round billets), or at three slab conticasters. The new quality control and analysis system Silenos and construction and operation principle of the testing unit are described. Applied statistical methods allow providing quick and low-expensive estimation (including 3D estimation) of morphology, dimensions and chemical composition of identified defects with their “hanging” to corresponding technological parameters. The measures undertaken on the base of obtained analytical results enable continuous control process and improvement of quality of products. |
