Abstract | The article discusses determination of an optimal flowsheet to expose a building stone deposit from the viewpoint of minimization of stripping and production cost. The studies are carried out in terms of Krutorozhino deposit developed by Orsk Open Pit Mine Management in the Orenburg Region. Due to the complication of work at deeper levels in the operating quarry, the senior officials have made the decision to undertake feasibility study on the new North-Krutorozhino site. This area adjoins the north-eastern pitwall of the operating quarry within a single open-pit field. Selection of an optimal flowsheet to expose reserves was complicated by a number of constraints: the insufficient capacity of the current overburden dump and its workability only within the first three years of operation of the new site, as well as the requirement to employ the available equipment, supply lines and infrastructure. The scope of modeling of potential exposure flowsheets covered three basic variants divided into subvariants later on with respect to different directions of mining front advance, arrangement of haulage roads and, as a consequence, different expenditures. In order to resemble the real project conditions, it was decided to increase the annual production output from 500 thou t in the first year to 1000 thou t in the later years. A priority variant was selected based on the cost-performance ratios calculated by consolidated work data on analogous quarries. The time factor was included by discounting all money flows at a rate equal to the average inflation rate in the last 10 years in Russia. The calculations showed that the most profitable variant for building stone quarries was the flowsheet with the shortest haulage distance. The stripping ratio had the lower infl uence on the cost/performance ratio than the haulage distance. |
