Abstract

The description of a new high-inductance roller type permanent magnet separator SMVI-1LM, developed at the Scientific Production Association SPA «ERGA», is presented. The results of the Selezenskoye deposit manganese ores separation tests, performed in cooperation with «Zapsibruda», are considered. The tests were conducted on –5+0 mm size ore. The separator optimum operation settings were determined during preliminarily tests. Dry manganese material of –5+2.5, –2.5+0.63, –5+0.63 and –5+0 mm size was subjected to magnetic separation at the first testing stage. Magnetic field induction on working surface was 1.3 T, non-magnetic fraction was cleaned in magnetic field of 1.5 T. Samples of magnetic fraction with manganese mass fraction from 7.53 to 15.69 %, recovery being from 85.59 to 95.74 %, suitable for hydrometallurgical processing stage, and the ones of non-magnetic fraction with manganese mass fraction from 1.04 to 1.51 %, were obtained. A high yield of final dump tailings (40.18–54.37 % from feed material delivered to separation) is indicative of efficiency of this separator and provides for removal of barren and low-grade rock from subsequent processing stages. The second testing stage of magnetic separation was conducted by a similar flow sheet with wet and moistured manganese material. The samples moisture content following mixing with water was 21 and 9 %, corresponding to ore processing under different weather conditions. The joined magnetic fractions contained 11.59 and 12.33 % manganese, yield being 44.76 and 55.72 %, respectively, tailings — 6.77 and 3.67 % manganese (for sooty-cobble ores). The obtained results demonstrated the SMVI-1LM 240200 separator operability under operating conditions difficult for dry separation. The capability of efficient processing technology realization with production of final dump tailings with minimal manganese grade was verified.
