Abstract

Deutsche Edelstahlwerke manufactures ingots from high clean steel at its works in Witten and Siegen. To provide ingot production with very low level of macroscopic inclusions, the technological process is controlled and adjusted in the narrow range of parameters and is strictly kept in correspondence with preset values. High clean refractory materials with minimal ability to react with producing steel are used as well. Especial attention is paid to deposition of inclusions inside the mould; this process is analyzed and optimized via water simulation and simulating calculations. The state-of-the-art ultrasonic control devices are used for evaluation of steel cleanness degree by macroscopic inclusions. The company presents three quality ranges of products, so the customer can choose the most suitable one, taking into account his application area.
