Abstract

Blast furnaces charging apparatus operates at high pressure conditions [1–3] and temperatures of the blast furnace gases [1–5], which lead to linear and angular deformations of the contact surfaces of the cone and the cup, with violation of their fitting to each other. The greatest influence on changes on the size and shape of the gaps is provided by angular deformation of the lower ring of the cup, so the operation contact of the cup and cone occurs along not entire contact surface, but along the ring line. Thereby it finalized in reduction of resistance to the blast furnace gases flow and in acceleration of wear of contact surfaces. The aim of this work is to determine the effect of temperature and pressure of the blast furnace gases on variation of the gap between the contact surfaces of the cone and the сup, as well as to provide changes in their geometry in order to improve the tightness of the charging apparatus in operation. The values of angular deformations of the lower ring are determined for different charging schemes and temperature operating conditions for the blast furnaces with volumes 1370 and 2000 m3. It was established that temperature stresses in the cup cause such deformations during 12 min at 200 °С and during 24 min at 500 °С. Increase of the gap in the lower part of the cap ring makes 0.5 mm and 1 mm at the same temperatures respectively. To improve tightness of the cone charging apparatus, it is recommended to provide grinding of the cap contact surface with the cone angle more than the cone angle of the cone contact surface by 15–20 ‘. Equalizing of the cone angles of contact surfaces occur due to angular deformations of the lower ring of the cap owing to its heating during blast furnace operation.
