Abstract | The paper observes modernization of the heavy plate rolling mill at the works of voestalpine Grobblech GmbH, when the company has mounted the new mill instead of removed previously operated rolling equipment. It was decided to realize modernization during two downtimes of rolling shop in order to minimize the required delay period. Modernization of the drive line and rolling bed with mounting of new guide beams has been conducted at the first stage. At the same time the new rolling mill has been preliminarily mounted at the adjacent site, with “dry testing” of all supplying connections and technological operations. The general mounting and putting into practice have been realized during the second downtime with duration of 31 day, while removal of the old rolling stand has taken 5 days. During six weeks of following operation about 100,000 t of heavy plate of all significant steel grades have been rolled in automatic procedure. |
