Abstract | Refractory materials are used in all kinds of steelmaking equipment to provide protection of these units from corrosion and lowering of thermal losses. Oxide inclusions can be formed during any contact between steel melts that are deoxidized (killed) by aluminium and refractory materials. The new investigating method has been developed to avoid this situation. It allows to evaluate quickly in laboratorial conditions (close to industrial ones) possibility of secondary oxidation of refractory ceramic products during their contacts with steel melts deoxidized (killed) by aluminium as well as to determine respectively their quality. Verifying researches directed on reveal of efficiency of this new method of hot extraction using carrying gas (depending on pressure) have displayed very good correspondence between secondary oxidation stability values determined via the new method and the values obtained by thermodynamic forecast. Thereby practical apllicability of this method has been confi rmed and additional investigations with real refractories of different composition have shown its possible future usage for new refractories resistant to secondary oxidation. |
