The political directions in the field of trade and climate have played the important role on the development of the German and European iron and steel industry in 2016. It is clear that development of situation on the global and regional steel markets is connected with dramatic consequences for competitiveness of German metallurgy. It is shown that political decisions and objective external factors have serious influence on the fate of this industry. It is concluded that the efficient and reasonable European policy in the field of external trade and creation of the correct system for emissions quotes trade is required for stabilization of the iron and steel enterprises.
