The newer technical literature informs on intention to install sandwich belt highangles conveyors in cyclical-and-continuous flow charts in some open pit mines in Russia. Unfortunately, Russian plants have no experience in design and manufacture of sandwich belt high-angles conveyors, which means that this equipment is to be purchased from foreign manufacturers. On the other hand, the design of a sandwich belt high-angles conveyor represents a modification of a belt conveyor effectively manufactured in Russia. Russian scientists have been addressing the issue of calculation and selection of sandwich belt high-angles conveyors for many years. The analyses of accomplished researches and application in different mines have allowed making recommendations on selecting key design and regime parameters for sandwich belt high-angles conveyors: width and type of a belt, belt elasticity moduli, motor capacity, load distribution between conveyor circuits, radii of transition branches, etc. The article considers some issues of substantiation of key design and regime parameters for sandwich belt high-angles conveyors. It is shown that currently such problems as an increase in productivity of a conveyor at the same width and velocity of a belt, selection of radii for transition branches, load distribution between cargo-carrying and pressure circuits, or a decrease in conveyor-belt slip have been solved. It is emphasized that costs of a sandwich belt and its power supply are the same or even less than in case of a standard belt conveyor, and an increased metal consumption of sandwich belt high-angles conveyors (by 65–70 %) is compensated by an appreciable reduction in the length of the equipment for the same height hoist. Thus, in view of the aforesaid, it is possible to state that there are pre-conditions for manufacture of sandwich belt high-angles conveyors in Russia, which will offer domestic deep open pit mines the economically efficient advanced transport equipment.
