Abstract | One of the promising directions in magmatic rock materials processing waste utilization, including dust fractions, is production of mineral cotton. A special installation was constructed with a view to obtain product experimental samples, possessing physical and chemical characteristics suitable for mineral cotton production. The installation provides for mechanical preparation of mix components, their dosing, mixing and briquetting by the method of vibration pressing. Effects of main mineral cotton briquettes production parameters upon their qualitative characteristics were studied. Granite and dolomite rock materials processing dispersed waste mixture in a certain ratio served as mix. The following parameters were varied in the course of investigations: mix moisture content, time of vibration pressing, duration of hardening and size of mix carbonate component. Quality of studied briquettes was estimated by their strength characteristics: abrasive resistance in rotating drum, shatter test value and compression strength. The studies showed, that the highest quality indices of briquettes were achieved with the following briquetting parameters: mix moisture content — 15 %; time of vibration pressing — 60 sec; duration of hardening — 72 hr; mix carbonate component size — over 50 % of –0.074 mm size fraction; binder mass fraction in mix — 5 %. The recommendations are given for further optimization of the process. The work was performed with the financial aid from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation for the Project No. 14.576.21.0042 dated 16.07.2014, UIPNI RFMEF157614X0042. |
