Abstract

The task of providing the Russian ferrous metallurgy with domestic manganese raw material is one of the currently vital tasks of import substitution, related to the manganese ores and alloys, previously supplied from Ukraine and Georgia. he Polunochnoye deposit ores manganese carbonate concentrate sintering process and product sinter quality were studied. The concentrate particle-size distribution and chemical composition are presented. The experiments, conducted in sintering pans of 200, 600 and 800 mm in diameter, permitted to determine the conditions for production and quality indices of manganese product sinter with different basicity. It was established, that product sinter with basicity of about 2.5 possesses the best mechanical strength and resistance to spontaneous breaking in storage. The sintering process specialties are described, permitting to achieve an energy-saving effect through sinter mix moisture content optimization and decreasing fire-grate suction by the factor of 2–3, keeping the same linear rate of sintering. The interdependences of initial vacuum, linear rate of sintering, specific bulk mass and shrinkage on sintering with respect to sinter mix moisture content are presented. Sinter mix optimum moisture content is determined — approximately 10 %.
