Abstract | The paper presents the results of investigations of the effect of rate cooling of samples on forming the structure and hardness for three wheel steel grades (2, T and C). T and C steel grades are already developed and mastered in production conditions. The results have been received using Gleeble 3500 complex and thermal kinetic diagrams of decomposition of overcooled austenite have been built; they allowed to reveal the rational quenching conditions for railroad wheels and to develop construction of quenching tables. The cooling procedure for different wheel rim parts have been determined for each steel grade. It is mentioned that high accuracy of heating temperature (±5 °C) for wheels during their quenching and tempering has been achieved. The new equipment for wheel heating and cooling during heat treatment has been developed and put into operation. The automatized wheel cooling system during quenching has been suggested and tested. In general, the new technology for wheel production with increased hardness and wear resistance has been mastered. |
