Abstract | Existing technology of agglomeration of zinc-lead-containing dusts and cakes for their further pyrometallurgical processing was considered on example of a number of plants. Experience of lead-zinc enterprises shows that zinc-lead-containing dust and cakes are suitable for granulation by balling method. However, in each case, it is necessary to clarify the specialty of flowsheet and equipment operating, used in relation to feedstock materials. Technology, balling on a pan granulator, was tested for granulation of dusts and cakes, produced at JSC “Electrozinc”. Under laboratory conditions, various balling options were implemented, and granule properties were obtained. The charge consisted of sulfate and carbonate lead-zinc cakes, lead-contai ning dust, coke fines and soda ash. Granules with satisfactory properties were obtained both without introduction of additional binder, and with dry lignosulfonate. In the latter case, mechanical properties of the pellets were increased to 1.5–2.0 times. However, high heterogeneity of the charge on the properties, fractional composition and components moisture lead to reduction of quality and presentation of the finished product. Pre-grinding of coke breeze and soda to –0.16 mm size allows to increase the strength characteristics of the pellets significantly, together with reduction in cakes moisture to 7–8%. In absence of pre-crushing, soda and coke fines adhere to the granules surface, break their form with following crumbling as a result of mechanical stress. High initial moisture promotes cakes milling equipment malfunction due to sticking charged materials on its inner surface. Optimal pelletizing technology should include preliminary lead-containing materials drying, cooperative grinding and mixing of charge components, including soda ash and coke fines. This provides a granule composition averaging, and uniform distribution of soda and reducing agent in granules. Pellets receive the same size, spherical shape and high mechanical properties. |
