Abstract | Based on the analysis of the state-of-the-art of the ore mining industry and ecology in the Belgorod Region and in the entire area of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly, it is advised to raise the rich iron ore output by gradual transition to the combined open pit-and-underground method of mining, which will allow reduction of excavation (overburden) and processing waste to be stored. The article shows the outcomes of long-term geological and technological research, including field studies, aimed at validation of applicability, expediency, and economic and ecological efficiency of borehole geotechnologies, in particular, surface borehole hydraulic mining of rich iron ore and underground leaching of aluminum and other components in the deposits of alumina–iron ore. The authors emphasize high preparedness for the additional appraisal, planning and design of an industrial system for surface borehole hydraulic mining of rich iron ore based on approved geological reserves. |
