Abstract |
This paper describes the casual archaeological findings of cold steel swords and daggers from the territory of Bashkortostan and Orenburg region of the early Iron Age that are presented in the archaeological department of the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan. 24 items that have been belonged to the nomads of the South Urals region belonged to Savromatsky (VIII–IV centuries BC) and early Sarmatian (IV–II centuries BC) archaeological periods, are described. All swords and daggers in the form of pommels and hilts are divided into the following types: with zoomorphic antenna pommel and butterfl y-type crosshair, with simple antenna pommel and straight crosshair, with direct glass tube pommel, with bow-type crosshair and straight blade, with straight crosshair and sickle horn-type pommel, with ring pommel and straight crosshair. The main technological traditions and dates are given for each of the a.m. types. The catalogue of cold bladed weapon with metric data and description of their finding location are attached to the article. |
