Abstract

Currently, construction of the V. Grib Mining and Processing Combine — diamond ore open pit mining and processing enterprise located at Grib Diamond Deposit in the Arkhangelsk Region — is being completed. It is typical that a diamond deposit exerts adverse effect on nature as early as the prospecting and exploration stage. Afterwards, the harmful impact covers both the deposit area and the entire industrial and infrastructure sites of a mine. The most drastically imposed are natural water courses since diamond mining and processing technologies engage, in one way or the other, the hydrosphere. An operating industrial system pollutes water with suspended solids, mineral salts, heavy metals, toxic organic materials and oil products in the zones of their elution or discharge in water bodies. Development of production goes with urban growth, which aggravates man’s impact: industrial and household pollution of water bodies takes place concurrently. Definition of trends and scopes of equalization actions require evaluation of water bio-resource damage, considering level of industrial impact exposure and immensity of ecological after-effect, based on governmental legislation on natural resource, industry standardized documents, in compliance with the operating procedure and standards and other regulatory documents. The environmental implications analysis supposes studying and estimating changeable quantitative relationships of aquatic wildlife and industrial factors.
