Abstract | The article describes the large technique-and-technology complex for two-stage treatment of the open pit mine water and surface water prior to the water discharge to a natural water body of commercial fishing importance. The open pit and dump water treatment plants take underground water from opencast levels and surface waters of atmospheric fall in the area of the open pit mine, overburden dumps and the conserved vegetable soil pile. The open pit mine also receives water breakthroughs of the perimeter line of dewatering wells. On the open pit mine levels, water is caught in the system of drain trenches and forwarded to a water sump on the open pit bottom. The water is pumped from the water sump to the surface by pressure polyethylene pipes and then is fed to the treatment plant by a gravity-flowing steel collecting canal. The substantiation and selection of optimized engineering and process design solutions on purification of high-cube discharge water with high concentration of suspended solids was accomplished by the “VolgogradNIPImorneft” Design Institute. Based on the characteristics of the open pit and dump water (15% of suspended solids are smaller than 15 μm), the physicochemical purification method was accepted for the open pit mine discharge water, that allows for: the simplest combination of mechanical and chemical methods of water treatment; the low energy consumption (gravity flow of water in the whole purification circuit); the required purification quality; the optimized amount of capital and operating costs; the optimized construction solutions as well as equipment delivery and construction periods. The accepted discharge water purification technology is based on coagulation and flocculation, i.e., aggregation of dispersed suspended solids in liquid medium. The discharge water purification complex capacity is 3.2 thou m3/h. |
