Abstract | In this paper development of the German coking coal production since 1912 is presented. Furthermore this development is related to the history of coking plant Prosper in Bottrop. This history is observed in details for diff erent periods: beginning of the XX century, global industrial crisis in 1930-ies and the World War II, industrial restoration and so-called “economical wonder” in the 1950-ies. Production facilities of Prosper coking plant in 1950 and at present time are compared. Coal and coke production in Germany in the periods 1913–1930, 1930–1945, 1940–1947, 1958–1968, 1968–1989 and 1990–2010 are analyzed. Coke production at Bottrop is also described, especially in the period 1952–1960. Establishment of Ruhrkohle AG in 1968 moved the Bottrop coking plant to the new level of development, and the new stage has started in 2011 when ArcelorMittal has bought this enterprise. It is concluded that decrease of mining of co king coal was followed by essential growth of the part of imported coal in charge materials in Germany, and this part seems to be increa sing more and more with complete termination of coal mining in Germany. Therefore, it is forecast that Prosper coking plant in Bottrop will completely use imported coal in 2019, and this will manifest the fi nish of German coking industry. |
