Abstract | The article provides an analysis of the research project carried out on platiniferous dunites of the Svetlobor placers and identifies the basic typomorphic indications of the commercially viable mineral parageneses. The platiniferous ore mineralization is characterized by the following distinctive features: wide ranging composition of ferro-platinum alloys; high content of the ore system in Os, Ir, Rh and active S and As; inclusions of Fe-Ni sulfides and platinum intergrowth with magnetite. Over 80 % of mineral granules of the MPG are –100 mcm in size, which may be responsible for significant platinum losses in the process of gravity separation and requires additional extraction to recover small size and fine platinoids from tailings and slimes. It also provides summarized results of lab tests, run on a small sample of platiniferous dunites to validate a flowsheet involving step grinding and gravity separation of ore on a Knelson KC-MD centrifugal concentrator for samples of different sizes and flotation of tailings with new reagents — DEDTCm and Hostaflot M-91 — to recover product from platinoid fines. |
