One of the most essential chemical elements in industrial production is titanium, which is used as pigment titanium dioxide and titanium sponge. The most important task in Russia is creation of self mineral resource base of titanium, which will be able to liquidate the currently complete dependence of the country from import supplies of titanium products. According to this, Pizhemskoe deposit in Komi Republic is very prospective. Together with titanium, this deposit contains the range of other valuable components: quartz sands, basalts, gold-diamond placer and rare-earth elements. The project of creation of mining and metallurgical complex with wide spectrum of output products is developed on the basis of the considered object. The project foresees the construction of open pit, concentration plant and metallurgical plant on two industrial areas, connected by transport corridor. The project is realized by three Russian companies. The profile research and industrial organizations (including foreign organizations) are invited into the project realization as partners. Construction of mining and metallurgical complex will have the large industrial, economical and social importance for the Komi Republic and Russian Federation in total. Besides, this construction will make it possible to provide the Russian and international market with high-qualitative titanium products.
