This article gives the analysis and estimation of indices of social and economic development of the Komi Republic. There are singled out the transitive character problems (demographic crisis, aging of fixed capital, reproduction disproportions) and new problems, connected with reorganization of control systems of property and manufacturing, differentiation of incomes and expenses of population and financial crisis. Solution of problems is caused by innovation development of productive forces of the Republic and strengthening of inter-regional economic integration. Negative migration of population is a temporary and in some degree positive phenomenon for the Republic. It induces to the growth of labour productivity, rationalization of branch and territorial structure of manufacturing and improvement of professional skill of workers. Native population should have high incomes, exceeding the living wage by approximately 5 times in average. Social stratification in incomes of decile population groups should be increased by more than 10 times. It is necessary to carry out the essential raising of number of highly-profitable workplaces both in basic and auxiliary production areas, as well as in sphere of services. Taking into account the North conditions, overcoming of backlog, regarding the economy organization, is possible on the basis of new "poorly populated" operations on extraction and processing of mineral resources, introduction of regional and shift work of mineral deposits development; and new forms of accounting of natural-resource actives.
