Abstract | This article shows the role of academician I. N. Fridlyander (together with the group of specialists of VIAM Institute) in the development of aluminium fiberglass SIAL-1441 laminates (СИАЛ — fiberglass plastic and aluminium) on the basis of 1441 Al – Li alloy sheets with lower density. There is given the general presentation about this alloy. The composition, structure and complex of laminates' properties are described, together with the data about the resistance of fatigue crack growth. There is also shown the collaboration of VIAM Institute with European company “Airbus” and Delft University (TU Delft). In comparison with monolithic aluminium sheets, the unique combination of characteristics of SIAL-1441 (high crack resistance and specific static strength, good fatigue, corrosion and impact performances, fire resistance) makes this material prospective for construction of new generation aircrafts and repair of functioning equipment. The light (d = 2.59 g/cm3) and highmodulus (E = 80 GPa) 1441 Al – Li alloy is high workable in terms of cold rolling. Usage of thin-clad and unclad (down to 0.3 mm) 1441T11 alloy sheets in SIAL-1441 composition instead of sheets, made of traditional aluminium alloys of 2xxx and 7xxx series, makes it possible to reduce the density and to enhance the elasticity modulus of SIAL-1441. As a result, there happens the increasing of weight efficiency and structures' stiffness. GLARE materials (SIAL analogs) are successfully used by “Airbus” company for upper fuselage skin of А-380 aircraft and other components. On the basis of 1441 alloy sheets, SIAL is used for the lightning protective components of Be-103 aircraft's wing. It is also recommended as skins, bulkheads and safety belts, providing a higher service life and weight efficiency of advanced Russian structures of aircraft engineering. Application of SIAL-1441 material makes it possible to increase the weight efficiency due to further reduction of density (from d ~ 2.45 g/cm3 to d ~ 2.35 g/cm3). |
