Competent production cost management is a key tool of a mining company’s competitive recovery in the world market. Mining companies are continuously searching for methods of reduction in noneffective running costs. Currently, mining companies in Russia build up expensive high-production equipment stock of foreign manufacture, which creates background for extensive introduction of advanced technologies enabling production cost saving. One of such innovative technologies is intelligent equipment failure prevention and maintenance optimization. This article reviews the world experience gained in application of MineCare equipment failure prevention and maintenance optimization system developed by Modular Mining Systems, Inc. (The USA). This system inquiries, collects and processes data in real time via Wi-Fi-based network established in an open pit mine area and front-end connection to diagnostic checkers (OEM devices) mounted on mining equipment, which allows cutting down virtueless operating costs and precluding abuse of machinery, considering qualification of personnel.
