Abstract

Underground mining works at Verkhnekamskoe deposit are complicated due to the following geological dislocations. Echelon strike-slips entrenched into a salt at depth of 600 m are the most dangerous. Concordant faults are established in east part of the salt deposit, where sylvinite and carnallite zones are exploded by salt table and some rocks bloom out along dislocations. Strike-slip zones have developed both linear faults in over-salt stratum and ductile bends in salt. Deformation of salt rocks and release of associated gases take place along these zones. Open jointing zones are associated with the most coarse-grained salt beds, strike-slip zones, sites of layer bending and marginal parts of impoverishment zones. Impoverishment zones are characterized by potash or potassium-magnesium salts deficiency and have overlay origin. The small zones are associated with anticline structure axes, while large zones are localized on folded structures or strike-slip faults crossings. Lateral lithologic boundaries represent zones of sharp alternation of rock with various physical properties and their origin is connected with sedimentation conditions and fault-line marl discarbonatization. Erosion wash-outs on a salt table surface mark former boundary between underground and upstanding salt deposit parts over the water basin. Undermining of such zones may cause stratification of salt deposit tops and penetration of fresh waters.

The work has been made under financial support of the Program No. 14 of fundamental researches of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences (projects “Genesis and structure of Verkhnekamskoe deposit of potassium and magnesium salts as a base of its efficient and complex development”) and RFBR grant 11-05-96003-r-ural_a.
