Abstract

Increased corrosion resistance of tube steels can be considered as a result of aimed designing of steel composition with assistance of nano-structuring effect at the stage of billet production, as a part of technological cycle of tube manufacturing. Investigations have been conducted on the specimens of cold-deformed tubes from 03Kh17N9AM3 steel and their results have confirmed the conclusions done by the specialists of the Central Scientific and Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (TsNIIchermet) that new steel is characterized by high corrosion resistance against pitting forming and corrosion under stresses, in addition to the good complex of strength and ductile properties as well as sufficient workability during metal forming. Typical microstructure and austenite grain size are analyzed, the resulting histogram is built. Therefore, the new 03Kh17N9AM3 steel can be recommended for manufacture of tubes for special applications, including those for operation under pressure in unfavourable conditions with effect of different corrosion media. These recommendations have been practically used in production of cold-deformed tubes with size 32×3.0 mm, 25×2.0 mm, 16×1.5 mm in the tube rolling shop No. 2 at Volzhsky Tupe Works.
