Tsvetnye Metally
The October issue of Tsvetnye Metally includes a selection of papers to mark the 20th anniversary of Kola MMC, a subsidiary of Nornickel. The authors from and the general directorof Kola MMC, as well as the members of the Tananaev Institute of Chemistry and Technology of Rare Elements and Mineral Raw Materials of the Russian Academy of Sciences Kola Science Center, tell about the company’s innovative development and technical achievements. Kola MMC is a modern developing company capable of competing with the world leading nickel producers even in today’s challenging conditions.
November 1st marks a 245th anniversary of the day on which the first institution of engineering education was founded in Saint Petersburg – Mining Vocational School (known today as Saint Petersburg Mining University). The university is traditionally engaged in teaching and basic and applied research. And metallurgy has always been at the forefront. The current issue contains an article which tells about the history and the current activity of Saint Petersburg Mining University.
The papers included in Tsvetnye Metally No. 10, 2018 cover all the traditional topics: economics and management in manufacturing; benefication; heavy, light and rare metals; materials; metal processing.
A paper published in the Heavy Non-Ferrous Metals section describes the findings of researchers from MISIS’s Department of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold, who looked at the processing of the Udokan copper sulphide concentrate by low-temperature roasting with sodium chloride. The paper also contains a principal process diagram.
One of the papers published in the Materials section offers a systemized overview of the results of over 20 years of joint research by RWTH Aachen University, Samara University and MISIS in the area of thermomechanical processing ofthe АА 3104 aluminium sheets and strips used in food containers manufacturing. Because of its size, the paper will be published divided in two parts. Part 1 of the overview describes the can body strip production process. It also looks at the evolution of coarse intermetallic particles of the second phase. The second part will be included in the December issue.
