Chernye Metally

The 11th issue of “Chernye metally” journal (2017) is opened by the usual sections “Iron and steel news of the world” and “Innovations of the metallurgical companies”.

85th anniversary of Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Wokrs is presented in this issue by two publications: the interview of Pavel Shilyaev, CEO, and the report about the innovative technology of manufacture of cold-resistant rolled steel Arc for the largest nuclear ice-breakers “Arktika”, “Sibir” and “Ural”.

Ironmaking” section is presented by the paper from Ukraine. The specialists from the Iron and Steel Institute (Dnepr) have presented the main regulations of blowing-in of blast furnaces after long-term stoppings without tapping of freezing iron in the conditions of one metallurgical enterprise of “Metalloinvest” holding.

Rolling and other metal forming processes” is the main section in this issue. Evgeny Shikhov from the metallurgical plant “Elektrostal Tyumen” (affiliate of UMMC-Steel) has described optimization of the production cycle in order to increase specific productivity of the rolling mill. Sergey Belskiy from the Lipetsk State Technical University has described the saddle coefficient and its usage for evaluation of edge thickenings of the cross section of hot-rolled strips. Publications of the foreign authors in this section are devoted to application of a tribological model at a cold rolling tandem mill and to the new system for optical measurement of cold-rolled strip in extra severe operation conditions.

The section “Power engineering and ecology” includes two articles. The specialists from I. P. Bardin Central Scientific and Research Institute on Ferrous Metallurgy have examined possibilities of efficiency rise in pyrometallurgical processing of wasted automotive catalysts using Fe-based metal collector. The authors from the VDEh Steel Institute (Düsseldorf) have suggested to decrease the number of carbon-containing reducing agents in blast furnace practice due to steel melting from primary raw materials via direct iron ore reduction by natural gas and charging of obtained metalized product in the blast furnace. Itallowstocutcarbondioxideemissions.

Yuri Adno has described the main tendencies of iron and steel development in 2017 in his paper published in the section “Economics and finances”.
