Chernye Metally
The 11th issue of "Chernye Metally" journal (2013) is opened, as usual, by metallurgical news "Steel industry of the world". The section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and CIS countries" includes now five articles.
The specialists from Magnitogorsk State Technical University (V.G. Druzhkov, A.V. Ivanov et al.) presented the paper "Choice of bell-less top for blast furnaces", generalizing information about advantages and disadvantages of bell-less tops of trough and rotary types, based on publications and experimental data. It was established that maximal separating effect of gas flow on charging materials has been noted for the bell top, then bell-less top of rotary type and bell-less tops of trough type occupy second and third places meaning the value of separating effect.
Improvement of soft reduction technology in metal continuous casting for slabs is observed in the article "Correction of soft reduction technology in the process of metal casting in the slab continuous caster" by V. V. Moshkunov and his colleagues from Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works. This paper describes investigations using the effect of "artificial swelling" of a slab billet, undertaken for checking correspondence of information about actual length of liquid metal cup calculated by computer via dynamical system of billet secondary cooling.
The same section includes the third final part of the paper "Dendritic micro-heterogeneity of cast steel: review of the problems and their computer-aided analysis" by V. M. Golod, K. I. Emelyanov, I. G. Orlova from St. Petersburg State Technical University. Usinga Monte Carlosimulation it was implemented the solution of formation of anarray of data, accordingtothe final distribution of secondary dendrite arm spacing based on local system for the coalescence of neighboring secondary branches.
Publication "FEM simulation and optimization of the new reduction method for continuously cast billet" by A. A. Bogatov et al. from the Ural State Federal University observes investigations undertaken at the three-high mill of screw rolling for reduction of the billets that was installed at TPA-80 tube rolling unit of Sinarsky Pipe Plant (incorporated in TMK - Tube Metallurgical Company). The article examines the reasons for formation of tube buckles in rolling, formulates and solves the problems of mathematical simulation in Deform-3D program of screw rolling and piercing processes.
G. V. Shimov, S. P. Burkin and their colleagues from Ekaterinburg and Pervouralsk have examined necessity of elimination of roll straightening process from tube making technology and proposes combining of heat treatment and straightening of the heat exchanger pipes. The method of heat treatment and extension straightening of heat exchanger pipes is proposed and tested in production environment for tubes with size 16x1.5 mm made of stainless steel 08Kh18N10T (08Х18Н10Т).
Translated section of this issue consists mainly of the papers in the section "Coke-chemical production". L. Nelles and H.-B. Beckmann from the company Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH have analyzed the tendencies, problems and transformations of this industry since 1900-ies based on the German experience. P. Schmöle and M. Peters from ThyssenKruppSteel Europe in their article have examined the coke quality required for providing the preset productivity of a blast furnace.
The issue also includes the sections "Industrial Safety and Labour protection", "Metallurgy and Automotive Industry", "Education and Training of Specialists". The last section contains two publications devoted to the forthcoming 250th anniversary of Technical University Freiberg.
The final publication in the issue is devoted to the interesting facts about Bessemer converter technology and is connected with the 200th anniversary of Henry Bessemer.
