Chernye Metally

The first (January) issue of "Chernye Metally" journal in 2013 has been published.

Conventional section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and CIS countries" is presented by tube and section rolling.

S. P. Burkin, S. I. Parshakov, An. V. Serebryakov, Al. V. Serebryakov, V. V. Maltsev, I. N. Bazhukov from Ural Federal University and Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant have investigated ultrasonic control of capillar tubes. On the basis of improving the immersion bath design, the technical capabilities of ultrasonic testing equipment have been enhanced significantly. In particular, defects such as longitudinal cracks and imprints, nonmetallic inclusions, pores and dents on the thin-walled pipes of small diameter (less than 5 mm) can be reliably determined.

D.V. Merkulov, V.A. Toporov and M.V. Chepurin from the Moscow Power Engineering University and Seversky Tube Works have devoted their paper to the features of piercing conditions for continuously cast billets. Dependence between requirements for setting of piercing mill and formulated technological tasks is displayed on the structural-logical scheme. Optimal piercing procedures have been developed based on the proposed technique and applying to the conditions of Seversky tube works.

The section also includes the article "Variation of structural state of hot-rolled sections made of chromium-molybdenum steel during tempering" by V.A. Lutsenko, P.A. Bobkov, T.N. Golubenko, V.V. Gordienko and V.I. Gritsaenko from the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgyu named after Z.I. Nekrasov and Byelorussian Steel Works. It was established experimentally that shortening of isothermal holding down to 3-4 hours (instead of 6.5 hours) during annealing in the temperature interval 650-680 ºC provides decrease of hardness in chromium-molybdenum steel by 20-26 % (owing to forming of up to 30 % of pearlite with grain structure) and can be considered as power-saving technology.

The articles translated from German are located in regular sections "Iron and Steel Production", "Continuous Casting", "Rolling" and "Power Engineering and Ecology". They are devoted to the problems of production of high-manganese steels, refractory solutions for improvement of steel cleanliness, recognition of embossed and stamped writings on metallic surfaces, innovative forming processes for tubes, profiles and sheets as well as radio-frequency identification of rolling stands.

Special section on control and measuring devices concluded large collection of the articles started in the previous issue.

Historic section observes 100th anniversary of stainless steel and the part of Fried. Krupp AG in its production in Germany.
