The first part of the article contains an overview of state of the economy of the Commonwealth countries at the end of 2010. Data of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States and statistical organizations of the Commonwealth members, the Bulletin of Foreign Commercial Information materials and industry publications allows to make a reasoned conclusion about positive dynamics of its development. In the second part the state of mining and metallurgical sectors in Kyrgyzstan, Moldavia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine are analyzed. In these countries, except Moldavia and Turkmenistan, output of metallurgical manufacturing, including fabricated metal products has been noted. In Russia, the sub-sector is represented by more than 500 companies associated with the extraction of ore, its processing and manufacturing of non-ferrous, precious and rare metals, as well as wide range of mill products based on them. State of the Russian economy generally corresponds to the world global trends, the positive dynamics of its development is expected to continue. According to the authors' opinion, the positive indicators in 2010 were the result of increase in foreign trade and rise of prices for metal products, expansion of the activities in the field of capital construction and, intensification of investments.
