The article evaluates the performance indicators of an autonomous electrical system comprising diesel and wind power plants, as well as the effectiveness of integrating wind power plants into the autonomous systems. The calculation of energy shortage, fuel consumption and service hours of diesel generators took into account the distribution system diagram and the main equipment reliability indicators (failure rate and recovery time). The influence exerted by the selected distribution system diagram and operational mode of a bus section circuit breaker on these reliability indicators is assessed for the electric system with/without a wind power plant and at varied quantities of consumers of power supply reliability categories II and III. For simulating failures of the generating equipment and distribution system components, numerical modeling using the Monte Carlo method was employed. The step-by-step calculations of failures, efficiency evaluation of wind power and diesel generators, as well as computation of the required fuel and run-times for diesel plants were conducted. For each set of parameters, 2500 simulation cycles were performed. Statistical analysis methods were used to remove outliers, and then average indicators and standard errors were calculated. For the existing power supply system of Gyda settlement (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug), with 80% of category II consumers, integration of wind power plants into the electric system increases its efficiency in terms of all considered indicators (energy shortage is reduced by 20–80%, fuel consumption—by 30%, and diesel generator service hours— by 20%). The obtained results show that the double busbar system and operation of the bus section circuit breaker in the normally closed mode provide the best performance of an autonomous electrical system.
