Abstract

The condition of overlying and enclosing rocks in the vicinity of mined-out spaces of the Southeast and Podruslovy sites in the Tashtagol and Sheregesh rockburst-hazardous iron ore deposits is considered. The ore and enclosing rocks are strong, high-modulus and exhibit brittle failure in loading, but also can accumulate high elastic energy of deformation. The geomechanical and geodynamic analysis of mining blind ore bodies before and after the formation of a sinkhole on the earth’s surface during open stoping, block caving and sublevel caving was carried out. The stress–strain assessment of rock mass by mathematical modeling and geophysical methods showed that in various periods of ore extraction from blind ore bodies, stress concentration, formation of high stress zones and different-energy shocks were observed at the decrease in the thickness of overlying rock pillars between the roof of the mined-out spaces and the earth’s surface. Based on the experimental studies, zones of possible sinkholes are identified. After sinkholes formed, their geometric dimensions were determined over time. The void is filled from ground surface with crushed stone with a volume of about 5∙106 tons. It should be noted that the mining of ore reserves on the levels of +140 ÷ -70 m on the Southeast site and on the level of +255 ÷ +115 m on the Podruslovy site using the methods of stoping without backfill allowed reduction in the cost of production by 25–30 %.
