This paper studies sulfide lead-zinc ores of the Akzhal deposit in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The ore mineralization is relatively evenly distributed and is represented by pyrite, sphalerite, and galena. Flotation experiments were carried out in open and closed cycles under the current reagent conditions applied at the plant and under the reagent conditions proposed, using a silica depressant. The optimal grinding size was established at 69.77 % –0.074 mm, as it ensures the most acceptable process indicators, in particular, the zinc content in the zinc concentrate. Open-cycle experiments were carried out with the liquid glass rates varying between 60 and 120 g/t. At a rate of 60 g/t, the mass fraction of zinc in the concentrate was 23.03 % with a recovery of 52.29 %, and the mass fraction of silicon dioxide was 3.14 %. With a liquid glass consumption rate of 90 g/t, the mass fraction of zinc increased to 26.54 %, with a recovery of 54.41 %, and the mass fraction of silicon dioxide was 2.16 %. These are the maximum values of zinc content in the zinc concentrate achieved; with the liquid glass consumption rate increased to 120 g/t, the mass fraction of Zn in the concentrate dropped to 21.94 % with a recovery of 52.28 %, and the mass fraction of silicon dioxide was 3.15 %. In closed-cycle experiments, the mass fraction of zinc in the zinc concentrate was 43.99 % with a recovery of 58.47 %. The mass fraction of silicon dioxide in the concentrate was 2.15 %, with a recovery into the tailings of 94.03 %.
