May 19, 2023 at the site of the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University, as a part of an extensive program for preparation for the 125th anniversary of the university, a scientific and practical seminar "Innovative engineering solutions in metallurgy and blank production of mechanical engineering" was held, organized by the staff of the chair for Metallurgical technologies and equipment together with the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the Russian Association of foundry workers. The event discussed issues of ensuring technological sovereignty in the domestic metallurgy and mechanical engineering, as well as resource conservation, environmental safety, digitalization and automation of existing production. The seminar is dedicated to the anniversary of the Doctor of Engineering Sciences, professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR Alexey Anatolyevich Skvortsov (1908–1997), who is rightfully one of the founders of the Nizhny Novgorod (Gorky) scientific and pedagogical school of metallurgy and heat engineering. The seminar listened to the reports and presentations of representatives of more than 30 industrial enterprises, research and production firms, research organizations and universities, dedicated to topical issues of metallurgy and blank production of mechanical engineering. Among the innovative solutions, the participants of the seminar were most interested in: technology for eliminating casting defects; issues related to powder production technologies; additive technologies for manufacturing parts; production of foundry equipment; recycling of cast metal matrix composites; resource-saving technologies in investment casting; laser modification of the surface of critical articles; metallurgical aspects of the operation the casting and rolling complex, etc. The participants of the seminar confirmed their interest in continuing the creative interaction between science and production and made a proposal to combine the efforts of the seminar organizers and partner enterprises to change the format of the event to raise it to the all-Russian level.
