The process of rolling ingots and continuously cast blooms from special steels prone to the formation of internal defects is considered. In the development of well-known studies aimed at improving the quality of rolled ingots and concast blooms, the need for obtaining additional generalized results that could expand the unified methodological base for further improvement of their production was revealed. The purpose of this work is to determine the actual directions for improving the quality of rolled billets and heavy sections, subject to internal defect formation in order to increase the efficiency of considered technological process. In work, a scientometric approach was used to reproduce the world's knowledge flows about the formation of the quality of rolled ingots and concast blooms. An appropriated information model was propose. The simulation results showed that, in contrast to the previous decade, during the period from 2010 to the present, several thematic areas do not fully match the growth rate in the number of publications on the topic of special steels. Among these areas are the development of effective rolling schemes and roll pass design, methods for studying the rolling process, as well as obtaining information about the stress-strain state of the metal. A detailed review of the literature devoted to the listed thematic areas determined the need for additional systematic studies of the influence of geometric factors of the deformation zone of rolled ingots and concast blooms on metal quality indicators. Along with the FEM, it is expedient to expand the application of the experimentaltheoretical method for studying stresses and strains in the volume of rolled metal. The listed results are most in demand in solving problems of improving the quality of billets and long products obtained with minimal total reduction.
